As RRS, vi, no. 489, notes, the date of this charter is uncertain, owing to the contradictory nature of the stated date of resignation (31 January 1343) and the date given for the royal charter in parliament (18 September 1341). A parliament in September 1343 cannot be ruled out, as none of the witnesses or office holders are inconsistent with that date. Given that a parliament is known to have sat in September 1341, however, with no corroborating evidence for a meeting in 1343, the 1341 date remains most likely to be accurate. Back
