  2. PRO C47/23/3. The collection of fealties to Edward I dated to Berwick on 22 August 1296, and collectively known as the ‘Ragman Roll’ are printed in full in Intrumenta Publica sive Processus super Fidelitatibus et Homagiis Scotorum Domini Regi Angliae Factis A.D. MCCXCI-MCCXCVI [Instrumenta Publica] (Bannatyne Club, 1834). It has been suggested that the oaths given in the roll were not in fact made at Berwick on this date, but collected in the sheriffdoms over a considerable period (Barrow, Robert Bruce, 76-77). Only the part of the record referring directly to the Berwick parliament is reproduced here. Note that the record of the oaths is not an ‘official’ parliamentary record, but rather part of an English chancery record of the homages given to Edward I in 1290-1296. Back
