Of wappenschawings

Item, our sovereign lord, for the strengthening and defence of the realm in a time of war, so that the ways of armies be not abused or forgotten in a time of peace, ratifies and approves that act made by [James IV], his highness's father, of most noble mind, whom God absolve, thereupon, and ordains the same to be observed and kept, and wappenschawing to be had twice in the year according to the said act: that is to say, that the said wappenschawings shall be made yearly in times coming on 20 October and in summer on 15 June, of which acts the tenor follows with addition: [...]2
