Procedure: asking of instruments
Protestation of the lord chancellor

My lord [Gavin Dunbar], archbishop of Glasgow, chancellor, asks for instruments that, forasmuch as there is an article devised and concluded that a general provincial council be held in the [Black] Friars Order of Edinburgh and to begin on 1 March 1535 [1536], and that my lord [James Beaton, archbishop] of St Andrews has been warned and required by the king's grace to hold the same, that my said lord chancellor, for the common welfare of this realm, consents that the said Archbishop of St Andrews holds the same without prejudice of his archbishopric of Glasgow, privilege and jurisdiction granted to him and his successors. At the tenth hour before midday.
