Procedure: protest

Sir Alexander Menzies of that Ilk, knight, compeared and alleged that Thomas Douglas, by the assistance and maintenance of [James Douglas], laird of Drumlanrig, had taken the house of Enoch and occupies his lands without any just title, protesting, therefore, that he might have his action against the said laird since the said Thomas remains with him and remained before the taking of the said house. At the hour foresaid.
