  3. Unclear as to which Lord Lindsay is referred to here. Patrick, 5th lord Lindsay died sometime in 1526, and was succeeded by John, 6th lord Lindsay.
  4. According to Scots Peerage, ii, p.388 James was dead before 16 June and this may refer to his brother Michael, 4th lord Carlyle.
