- Unclear as to which Lord Lindsay is referred to here. Patrick, 5th lord Lindsay died sometime in 1526, and was succeeded by John, 6th lord Lindsay.
- According to Scots Peerage, ii, p.388 James was dead before 16 June and this may refer to his brother Michael, 4th lord Carlyle.
