[Petition of William Maxwell of Cardoness, on behalf of the stewartry of Kirkcudbright]2
  1. NAS. PA3/7, bound after 1704 printed minutes.
  2. Entitled 'The petition of William Maxwell of Cardoness, for himself and in the name and on behalf of the other barons within the stewartry of Kirkcudbright, in his protestation after-mentioned'. Maxwell attended the new election as ordered by parliament, but was shocked at the irregularities. No intimation of the meeting was made at several parish churches, there was a rival party present who refused to adhere to the president of the meeting and several were admitted into the room who were not allowed to be present. Asks parliament to reject any pretend commissions, particularly that of Alexander MacKie of Palgowan. Objections were overruled by parliament on 10 July 1705, (1 page).
