Act anent the kirk of Leith
The estaits of parliament, taking in to consideratioune ane suplicatioun givin in to them be the presbitrie of Edinburgh, schewing that by ane lait visitatioun maid be the said presbitrie at the south kirk of Leith that they have fund that thair is above thrie thousand communicants and ther is onlie tua ministers ther, ane whairof hes not any satled way of mantinance. Thairfoir desyring that the saidis estaits of parliament wold tak some course for to satle ane competent mantinance for the said minister in tyme coming, as at mair lenth is conteinit in the said suplicatioun. Quhilk, with the report of the committie appointit for that effect, being takine into consideratioun be the saids estaits of parliament, they have heirby givine and grantit and givs and grants powar and warrand to the provest and baillies of Edinburgh or bailyies of Leith to tak up ane list of such housemaills within the said toune of Leith as are inhabitants and kindle, reik and partak of the word and sacraments and to report to the committie of estaits betuixt and the first of September nixt; and remitts and recommends to the committie of estaits to grant ane annuitie for making up ane competent stipend to ane minister by laying on so much on the hundreth merk rent as will mak up the samyne, provyding the said ann[u]itie doe not exceid sex of the hundreth.
