[Warrant to the committee for prisoners and processes concerning the prisoners from the north and extension of their remit]
Warrant of an act for the committee appointed for trying the prisoners
Edinburgh, 16 May 1650
The which day the estates of parliament have given and granted and by this warrant give and grant full power and commission to David [Wemyss], earl of Wemyss, John [Hay], earl of Tweeddale, [Alexander Lindsay], lord Balcarres, the lairds [John Swinton of] Swinton, [John Dickson of] Hartree and [Sir John Chiesley of] Kersewell, John Short, Mr Alexander Douglas [of Downies] and Mr James Campbell, and to Mr Thomas Nicolson, his majesty's advocate, Mr Alexander Colville of Blair and Mr James Robertson of Bedlay (or any four of them as their quorum, the said quorum consisting of one of every estate) to take into consideration all the prisoners either already come or to come from the north and to distinguish them in lists according to the nature of their crime and to give their opinion anent the disposal of them to the parliament; and further give them the same power that the committee of processes had formerly and ordain the act to be extended to them.
