[Pass to the earl of Morton; commissions approved; president of the committee sent to the north]

The quhilk day the earle of Morton compeired personallie before the estates and, after he had publicklie sworne and subscribit the covenant, desyred that he might have a passe to repaire to Orkney for some of his privat affaires; and being demandit if he had anie commission frome his matie to these bounds, declaired upon his honor he had non and that his cariage there sould be suche as may conduce most for the peace of the countrey, and that he sould be reddie as he should be desyred to give all the assistance in his power for procureing obedience to the orderis of the estates. In respect whereof the estates allowes of his voyage and ordaines a passe to be granted to him for his goeing thither and returne.

The estates approves the comission granted to Sir Frederick Hamilton to be colonel of a regiment of horse to be lifted in this kingdome, and whill they be all lifted, allowis him to have the charge of suche troups as sall be at the borders.

2Commissions this day past to the m[arquis] of Argyle, Marischal and Elcho for the expeditioun to the north and to a committee to goe with them.

The estates nominats the Lord Burley to be president of that committee that gois to the north.

[Additions to the membership of the committee of estates; earl of Lanark appointed colonel of the forces from Lanarkshire]

The estates adjoyns the earles of Kingorne and Lanerick and the justice clerke to the committie of estats, and ordans thame to be admitted and sworne therin accordinglie.

The estates nominats and appoynts the earle of Lanerick to be colonel of the shirefdome of Lanerick and of the forces that sall be first brought out of the same.

[Rents of non-covenanters; ratification of the proceedings of the committee of estates and committees of war; additions to the membership of the committee of war in Lanarkshire]

The estats recomends to thair committee to tak some speedie and reall course for uplifting the rents of noncovenanters.

The estats ratefies and approves the proceedings of the comittee of estates and the power and commission granted to thame and to the colonells and committees of warre in the shyres.

The estats adjoyns Sir James Lokhart of Lee, Sir William Weir of Stanebyrs, Sir William Lokhart of Carstaires, James Lokhart of Dreghorne and Robert Hamilton of Torrence [...]3 to the comittee of warre of Lanerick, and ordans the said committee to admitt them among them as of there number, and to take ther oath de fidely.
