The quhilk day, in presence of the kingis majestie sittand in plaine parliament, compeirit personallie Generall Alexander Leslie of Balgonie, clothed in parliamentarie robis, accompanied be the Duke of Lennox, Erles of Eglintone and Dumfermelin, also clothed in thair robbis, with all solemnities of trumpettis, herauldis and others ordinar, ane patent of erledome of Levin and lordship of Balgonie graunted to him and his airs maill lawfullie gotten of his awin bodie wes publiklie red be the clerk and thairefter convoyed be the lord president to his majestie sittand upon the throne. And the kingis majestie delyvered the said patent to the said lord generall efter he had sworne the oath accustomed, and thairefter putt the crowne of ane erle upon his heid.2
