Procedure: nomination and election of ordinary and extraordinary lords of session
Act anente the nominatioune and electioun of the lordes of sessione, ordinarie and extraordinarie

The quhilk day the kingis majestie, with advyse and approbatione of the estates of parliament conveened in plaine parliament, nominat and elected Sir George Erskene of Innerteill, Sir Alexander Gibsone of Durie, Sir Andro Fletcher of Innerpeffer, Sir Johne Hammiltoune of Orbestone, justice clerke, Sir James Carmichaell, thesaurer deput, Sir James Leirmonth of Ballcomy, Sir James McGill of Cranstouneriddell, Sir George Halyburtoune of Fodderance, Sir Johne Hope of Craighall, Sir Johne Scot of Scotistarbete, Sir Alexander Fallcouner, younger, of Hackertoune, Sir Johne Leslie of Newtoun and Sir Thomas Hope of Kerse, knychts, Maister Archbald Johnestoune of Wairestoune and Maister Adame Hepburne of Humbie to be the fyfteene ordinare lordis of sessione and senatoures of the colledge of justice, and that ad vitam vell culpam, and judges for administratione of justice to the leiges, conforme to the first fondacion and erectione of that soverane judicatory of the colledge of justice. Lykeas his majestie, with advyse and approbatione of the saidis estates of parliament, gave and disponed and heirby gives and dispones to the fyfteene ordinarie lordis of sessione abovenamed, and to ilke ane of them ad vitam vell culpam as said is, the fyfteene ordinarie places of the saidis ordinar lordis and senatore of the colledge of justice, with all fies, honors and dignities, proffites, casualities, immunities, liberties and priviledges whatsowevir perteeneing and belonging to the ordinar lordis and senatoures of the colledge of justice, and ther places therof to be brooked and possessed by the persones abovenamed now nominated and elected therto as said is, and ilke ane of them sicklyke and with all respectes and priviledgs, fies, casualities, immunities, liberties and priviledges whatsomevir as the samene heath bene possest and brooked by any preceeding lordis and senatoures of the said colledge of justice, and which the saidis lordis and senatoures forsaids may now brooke and enjoy by the lawes of the kingdome, and that ad vitam vell culpam, conforme to the act of this present parliament made heiranent upoun the sexteene day of September lastbypast. Lykeas his majestie, with advyse and approbatione foirsaid, lykewayes nominated and elected Archbald, erle of Argyle, Archbald, lord Angus, Johne, lord Lindesay and Johne, lord Ballmerino, to be the four extraordinare lordis of sessioune and senatoures of the said colledge of justice, conforme to the act foirsaid maide anent the nominatione and electione of the officeres of estate, counselloures and sessioners of the dait the sexteene day of September lastbypast. And his majestie, with advyce and approbacion of the saidis estates, gave and disponed, and heirby gives and dispones, to the saidis four extraordinar lordis of sessione abovenamed, and to ilke ane of theme, the four ordinare places of the saidis extraordinar lordis and senatoures of the colledge of justice, with all honores, dignities, immunities, liberties and priviledges whatsoevir belonging to the extraordinar lordis of sessioun and ther places therof, to be bruiked and possest by the foirsaidis four lordis abovenamed now nominated and elected therto sicklyke and with all respectes the samene heath bene possessed and bruiked by any preceeding extraordinare lordis of the sessione, and which may be now bruiked and enjoyed be them by the lawes of this kingdome.
