Act of exonoratione and approbatione in favoures of the Laird of Riccardton Drummond
The quhilke day the kingis majestie and estates of parliament, haveing takine to there consideratione the petitione of Williame Drummond of Riccartoun, makeand mentione of the trust put upoun him with some other commissionares by the committie of parliament in [...] anno 1640 yeires for the treattie of peace betuixt the kingis majestie and his subjectes of Scotland, and betuixt the kingdomes of Scotland and England which was begune at Rippone and thereftir translated to Londoune, conforme to the commissione and instructiones respective granted to the said petitioner and the wther commissionares thairanent; and Johne, Lord Loudoun, ane of the saidis commissioneres, haveing returned in Julii 1641 with the whole proceedingis and conclusiones of the treattie to the estates of parliament, eftir due tryell and publict approbatione therof, he was sent bake to Londone with new commissione and instructiones to himselfe and uther commissioneris joyned with him for final concluding and subscryveing the articles of peace, which accordinglie was done be the commissioneris of both kingdomes and thaireftir ratified by the kingis majestie and both parliaments; and thairfor, the said petitioner humblie desyreing the kingis majestie and estates of parliament to examine his whole actiones and cariage in the foirsaid publict and weightie imploymentes, and if he hes walked faithfullie according to there commissiones and instructiones, that he may be exonerit of so great a chairge and have the publict approbatione of the kingis majestie and estates of parliament, as the said supplicatione at mair lenth beires. His majestie and estates, finding the foirsaid petitione and desyre most equitable, and haveing considerit the report of the committie appoynted by the parliament for examinatione of the said Laird of Riccardtoune, his whole cariage in the foirsaid imployment, and compaired the saidis petitioners his whole actiones and deportments in the foirsaid publicte negotiatione with ther commissiones and instructiones, togidder with the testimony of the kingis majestie and remanent commissionars who war in the commission and trust with the said Laird of Riccardtoun, doe find and declair that the said Williame Drummond of Riccardtoun heath behaved himselfe so cairfullie, diligentlie and faithfullie in the foirsaid chairge as he deserves ther testimony and approbatione therof; and therfor his majestie and estates of parliament doe not only liberat and exoner him of all questione or challenge that can be laid to him for his cariage in the foirsaid chairge and imployment, bot also doe give him this weell deserved testimony and approbatione: that he heath behaved himselfe in the foirsaid imployment and trust as ane loyall subject to the king and trewe patriot to his cuntrie.
