The estates nominate the earls [John Maitland, earl of] Lauderdale, [William Hamilton, earl of] Lanark, [Sir Archibald Johnston of] Wariston, Sir Thomas Nicolson [of Carnock] and [Sir John Smith of Grotehill], provost of Edinburgh, to be a committee to meet with the advocates of state for preparing the processes of such as are summoned to the parliament, and to take the depositions of such persons as are in prison, or any others that may contribute to the clearing of these processes.
