Protestation of the College of Glasgow against the town of Glasgow's ratification

In the parliament held at Edinburgh, 17 November 1641, the which day Doctor John Strang, principal of the College of Glasgow, personally present in presence of the king's majesty and estates of parliament, for himself and in name and on behalf of the professors, regents and other masters and members of the University and College of Glasgow, protested for himself and in name and on behalf foresaid that the ratification granted by the king's majesty and estates of parliament of the date hereof in favour of the burgh and city of Glasgow, provost, bailies, dean of guild, treasurer, council and community thereof and their successors of the charter and infeftment granted to them by the king's majesty, of the date 16 October 1636, ratifying, approving and confirming diverse and sundry charters, infeftments, precepts, instruments of sasine, confirmations, decreets, acts, donations, mortifications, rights of patronages and other rights, commodities, liberties, privileges and others particularly and generally expressed in the foresaid charter and infeftment, containing also therein a gift of novodamus, as the same charter of the date above-written and ratification thereof respectively foresaid more fully purport, should be always without prejudice to the said University and College of Glasgow and to the said principal, professors, regents and other masters and members thereof regarding their rights, privileges, liberties and immunities granted and pertaining to the said university and college and to the principal, professors, regents and other members and masters of the said college, and regarding all lands, superiorities, teinds, rents and other duties and casualties whatsoever, in any way pertaining or belonging to the said college by whatsoever right, title or possession granted or given to them in any manner of way, and that the same rights, privileges, liberties and immunities with the lands, superiorities, teinds, rents and other duties and casualties whatsoever granted and pertaining respectively to the said college, with the rights, infeftments and securities thereof, be in no way hurt nor impaired by the foresaid charters, infeftments and other rights and titles before rehearsed, granted in favour of the said burgh of Glasgow, provost, bailies, council and community thereof, nor by the foresaid ratification of the same above-mentioned; and hereupon the said Doctor John Strang, personally present, for himself and in name and on behalf foresaid, asked act and instruments.
