Protestation of the town of Kinghorn and [Charles Seton], earl of Dunfermline against [James Melville of] Halhill's ratification

In presence of the king's majesty and estates of parliament compeared personally in parliament Master Robert Cunningham, as commissioner for the burgh of Kinghorn, and Robert Hepburn, advocate, as procurator for Charles, earl of Dunfermline, and heritable bailie of the lordship of Dunfermline, and solemnly protested that the ratification granted in this present parliament in favour of James Melville of Halhill of his rights and infeftments of the lands of Nether Grange of Kinghorn and others contained in his ratification thereof foresaid should be always without prejudice to the said burgh of Kinghorn regarding their infeftments, rights, liberties and privileges of the said burgh, and regarding the said Earl of Dunfermline, his heritable rights of the bailiary of Dunfermline and other rights and securities of the lordship thereof, teinds, rents, profits and casualties of the same; and thereupon the said Master Robert Cunningham, commissioner for the town of Kinghorn, and Robert Hepburn, procurator for the said Earl of Dunfermline, asked instruments.
