Ratification in favour of James Maxwell of Innerwick

Our sovereign lord and estates of parliament ratify and approve the charter made and granted by his majesty, under his highness's great seal, of the date at Edinburgh, 25 July 1636, to and in favour of his majesty's trusty and familiar servant, James Maxwell of Innerwick, his heirs and successors specified therein, of the advocation, donation and right of patronage of the kirk of Gullane, which is now called the kirk of Dirleton, parsonage and vicarage thereof, with all and sundry teinds, fruits, rents, emoluments and duties pertaining and belonging thereto, to be held of his majesty in free blench, as in the said infeftment of the date foresaid at more length is contained; together also with the whole other infeftments granted to the said James or the late John [Erskine], earl of Mar, his author, as lord of erection of the lordship of Cardross, whereof the said kirk of Dirleton was a part, and from the which John, earl of Mar the said James Maxwell's right of the said kirk of Dirleton proceeds, and specially, without prejudice of the generality foresaid, the letter of ratification and renunciation under the great seal granted by his majesty to the said late John, earl of Mar, his male heirs and assignees, and conceived in favour of whatsoever person or persons who had acquired right from the said earl of any kirks or teinds of the said erected lordship of Cardross, whereof the said kirk of Gullane is a part as said is, whereby his majesty has ratified and approved the infeftment of erection of the said lordship of Cardross, with the act of dissolution of the abbacies and priories of Dryburgh and Inchmahome whereupon the same proceeds, and has renounced all right and title which his majesty may have for quarrelling of the same, as in the said letter of ratification and renunciation of the date 14 July 1634 at more length is contained, in the whole heads, articles, clauses and conditions specified and contained in the said infeftments, ratifications, renunciations, generally and particularly above-specified, and declare this present ratification to be as effectual as if the same were inserted expressly. Moreover his majesty and estates of parliament, for the said James Maxwell's further security, and also for security of all others having right to the kirks or teinds of the said erected lordship of Cardross, either flowing from the said late John, earl of Mar or from the late Harry [Erskine], lord Cardross, his son, or David [Erskine], now lord Cardross, his grandson, of the kirks and teinds of the said abbacies and priories of Dryburgh, Cambuskenneth and Inchmahome, which were erected in the said temporal lordship of Cardross or any part or portion thereof, have of new dissolved and, by this ratification, dissolve, extinguish and suppress the said abbacies and priories with the name and memory thereof for ever, and declare the same to have been fully and altogether suppressed and extinguished by the rights and acts of parliament made in favour of the said late John, earl of Mar, his male heirs and successors of the said lordship of Cardross, and to be so in all time coming.
