Procedure: protests; asking of instruments

The same day compeared [...] Philp, doctor of medicine, and protested that the ratification granted in this present parliament in favour of John [Lindsay], lord Lindsay regarding the erection of the kirk of Kingsbarns should in no way be hurtful or prejudicial to him of his rights, privileges and infeftments, but that the same should remain with him as of before. Which protestation his majesty and estates of parliament have admitted and admit, whereupon the said [...] Philp asked acts and instruments.

The same day compeared a noble lord [John Maitland], earl of Lauderdale etc., and protested that the ratification passed in this present parliament in favour of James Livingstone of Biel regarding the patronage of Stentoun and others therein contained should in no way be prejudicial to the said noble lord, his rights, privileges and infeftments of the same. Which protestation his majesty, with advice of the said estates, has admitted, whereupon the said [John], earl of Lauderdale, asked instruments.
