Procedure: continuation of parliament
The which day the commissioners of the foresaid parliament underwritten, namely: Thomas [Hamilton], earl of Haddington, lord privy seal, William [Alexander], viscount of Stirling, secretary principal of the kingdom of Scotland, John [Stewart], lord Stewart of Traquair, Sir John Hamilton of Magdalens, clerk register, Sir Thomas Hope of Craighall, knight baronet, advocate to our sovereign lord, and Sir George Elphinstone [of Blythswood], justice clerk, having convened for fencing of the foresaid parliament, our said sovereign lord's advocate produced a commission under the quarter seal granted by his majesty of the date at Oatlands, 18 July 1631, bearing that the foresaid parliament was continued to the foresaid 4 August, and therefore making and constituting George [Hay], viscount of Dupplin, chancellor of Scotland, William [Douglas], earl of Morton, treasurer thereof, William [Graham], earl of Menteith, president of the privy council, Thomas [Hamilton], earl of Haddington, lord privy seal, William [Keith], earl Marischal, John [Leslie], earl of Rothes, George [Seton], earl of Winton, Alexander [Livingstone], earl of Linlithgow, John [Drummond], earl of Perth, John [Fleming], earl of Wigtown, William [Alexander], viscount of Stirling, John [Wemyss], lord Wemyss, John, lord Stewart of Traquair, Sir John Hamilton of Magdalens, clerk register, Sir Thomas Hope of Craighall, his highness's advocate, Sir George Elphinstone, justice clerk, his highness's commissioners, giving power to them, or any five of them, for fencing and holding of the said parliament and continuation thereof until 13 April 1632. Which commission being read publicly, after that the court of parliament was fenced and the suits called, the said commissioners above-named who were this day present have continued and continue this present parliament in the same form, force and effect etc., with summons, actions, causes and other matters belonging to the said parliament until the said 13 April 1632, to be held then at Edinburgh or where it shall happen his majesty and his highness's privy council to direct by their letters by open proclamation; and ordain the said estates of parliament and all others, his highness's lieges, to await thereupon the foresaid time and place under the pains contained in the acts of parliament of this realm.
Upon the fencing of the which parliament, continuation thereof and whole premises thereof to the day above-written, the said Sir Thomas Hope [of Craighall], advocate to our sovereign lord, for his highness's interest, asked instruments.
