Procedure: continuation of parliament

Which parliament being so fenced by the said commissioners above-named and the suits called, compeared Walter Hay, advocate for and in name of [Francis Hay], earl of Erroll, constable, as also compeared Master John Oliphant, advocate for and in name of [William Keith], earl Marischal, and likewise compeared Sir Lewis Lauder of Adinstoun, knight, shire principal of Edinburgh, and his deputes, with David Aikenhead, provost of the burgh of Edinburgh, and Andrew White [of Markle], keeper of the tolbooth of the said burgh, dempster of the said court of parliament.

Thereafter the said Sir Thomas Hope [of Craighall], his highness's advocate, desired the foresaid commission to be publicly read with a letter which he produced from his majesty for continuation of the said parliament, bearing date from his highness's court at Southwick, 28 August 1628, for continuing of the said parliament until 15 April 1629; which commission and letter foresaid being accordingly read, the said Sir Thomas Hope, advocate, asked instruments upon the production and reading thereof.

The said commissioners above-named, according to his majesty's will and pleasure signified in the foresaid letter, have continued and continue this present parliament in the same form, force and effect etc., with all summons, actions, causes and other matters belonging thereto until 15 April 1629, to be then held at Edinburgh or where it shall happen his majesty and his highness's privy council to appoint and direct by their letters by open proclamation for that effect; and ordain the whole estates of parliament and all others, our sovereign lord's lieges, to await and attend thereupon under the pains contained in the acts of parliament of this realm. Upon the fencing of the which parliament and continuation thereof to the day foresaid, the said Sir Thomas Hope [of Craighall], his highness's advocate, for his majesty's interest, asked instruments.
