Procedure: protestation; asking of instruments
The quhilk day, in presence of the haill estaittis of parliament, compeirit persounallie James, lord Ross, and protestit that albeit he wes rankit efter the2 Lordis Elphingstoun, Hereis and dyvers utheris lordis be ane decreit of secreit counsell quhen he wes minor and furth of the realme, that the said ranking prejudge not him nor his posteritie Lordis Ross for to sute thair dew place conforme to thair infeftmentis and rightis in tyme and place convenient; and thairupoun the said Lord Ross askit instrumentis.

The quhilk day the Lord Keyth, in name and behalf of the Erle Merschell, his father, creatit Patrik Oftiane to be mershell officiar, quha, being personally present, maid fayth de fideli administratione and therapon he askit instrumentis.
