Anent the halding of horsis at hard meit be cowparis
2Forsamekle as it is considerit be oure soverane and thre estatis of this present parliament that amangis the monie utheris occasionis of derth of victuallis within this realme, thair is ane speciale verie unprofitabill in the commone weill, quhilk is the halding of horsis at hard meit all the somer seasoun, usit commonlie be personis of meane estait, cowparis, of intentioun to mak merchandice of the saidis horsis, being for the maist pairt small naigis and na horsis of service; quhairfor it is statute and ordanit that nane of oure soverane lordis liegis, not being ane erle, prelate, lord, greit barone or onie of his hines privie counsell, sessioun or landit gentilman that may spend of his awin ane thowsand mark of yeirlie rent, all chargeis deducit, sall hald onie maner of horsis at hard meit yeirlie langer nor the fyftene day of Maii nor tak thame in befoir the fyftene day of October, under the pane of escheitting of the saidis horsis or paying the availl of thame to oure soverane lordis use; and the contraveneris to be puneschit and accusit at justice airis or particuler dyettis as accordis.
