Anent the dispositioun of provestreis, prebendareis and chaplanereis to bursaris to be fundit in collegeis

Item, forsamekle as the youth is not onlie sene to preserve the commoun weill, bot alswa of thame man ryse sic as efter this man serve in the kirk of God within this realme and to the commoun weill of the samin; and because the poverte of mony is in sic sort that thay may not hauld thair children at letteris, quhairby the maist pairt of the youth of this realme wantis the giftis and gracis of leirning requisite to that charge; and, for remeid heirof, our soverane lord, with avise and consent of my lord regent and thre estatis of this present parliament, hes statute and ordanit that all patrounis havand provestreis or prebendareis of collegis, alterageis or cheplanereis at thair giftis and dispositioun may, in all tymes cuming, at thair plesour present the samin to ane bursar quhome thay pleis to name, to studie vertew and letteris within ane college of ony of the universiteis of this realme, thair to remaine for sic space as the patroune foirsaid plesis to hauld him at vertew and leirning within the foirsaid college, and as salbe aggreit upon be the patrounis of the saidis provestreis or prebendareis, with the principall and ministeris of the college of the universitie; and efter the patroun remuife that bursar furth of the said college, to present ane uther, and swa furth, fra ane to ane uther, to the effect foirsaid, at the patrounis plesour, notwithstanding ony fundatioun or confirmatioun past be quhatsumever authoritie in ony tymes bygaine, anent the quhilk our soverane lord, my lord regent and thre estatis of this present parliament dispensis, swa that the saidis patrounis may dispone thair provestreis and prebendareis to sic bursaris as thay sall think expedient, als oft as neid beis, quhilk salbe na hurt nor prejudice to thair patronage, notwithstanding thair fundatiounis and confirmatiounis quhatsumever, or ony provisioun contenit thairintill. And thairfoir, our soverane lord, my lord regent and thre estatis foirsaidis hartly requeistis all patrounis of collegeis, prebendareis and provestreis to graunt and dispone thair provestreis and prebendareis to the bursaris foirsaidis in maner above specifyit, swa that letteris may be authorisit and the youth sufficientlie brocht up in vertew and leirning, to the glorie of God and confort of the commoun weill of this realme.
