Approbation of their services who accompanied his majesty to Norway and Denmark

2Our sovereign lord, acknowledging and remembering the earnest favour and affection borne to his service by a great number of his nobility and subjects, specially by his trusty and well-beloved councillor John [Maitland], now lord Thirlestane, his highness's chancellor, who his majesty upon the sudden charged to take voyage with his highness, for accompanying of his grace to Norway and Denmark in the month of October 1589, to their great charges and expenses in remaining with his majesty to the month of May 1590 until his highness returned within this realm, his majesty and his estates of parliament have allowed and, by the tenor of this act, allow the said attendance, departure with our sovereign lord, accompanying of his grace the time of his absence, and returning with his highness in manner foresaid, and all and whatsoever things done by them in the said voyage from their departing to their returning, for most acceptable service to his majesty and to his whole realm.
