Act in favour of the vassals of those who are forfeited

2Our sovereign lord and estates of this present parliament, remembering the act of parliament made at Stirling, 23 August 1571, regarding his highness's true and faithful subjects remaining under his majesty's obedience having lands, heritage, liferents, annualrents, pensions or possessions whatsoever held of any persons called and forfeited for whatsoever crimes of treason and lese-majesty shall possess and enjoy their said lands, heritage, annualrents, liferents, pensions and portions whatsoever, notwithstanding the forfeiting of their superiors thereof, and hold the same of their next immediate superiors of the same; and now his highness, willing that the same act and benefit therein contained be made to all true vassals of such persons as are in this present parliament or that shall happen in any time hereafter to be forfeited, therefore his highness, with advice of the estates of this present parliament, statutes and ordains that all such persons being in no way culpable of the crimes for the which their said superiors shall be forfeited, having lands, heritage, annualrents, liferents, pensions and portions whatsoever held of any persons called and forfeited in this present parliament or that shall happen in any time hereafter to be forfeited for whatsoever crimes of treason and lese-majesty, shall possess and enjoy their said lands, heritage, annualrents, liferents, contracts, obligations, pensions or portions whatsoever, notwithstanding the forfeiting of their superiors thereof, and shall hold the same of their next immediate superiors, providing always that the said vassals and other persons foresaid who are to possess and enjoy the benefit of this act in time coming shall be held to come to his highness's treasurer for the time and compone with him for new infeftments and ratifications to be taken by them of their said land, heritage, annualrents, liferents, pensions and portions foresaid whatsoever, and that between now and 1 August next, otherwise the same to be null.
