Procedure: protests; asking of acts and instruments

The which day compeared George Herring as procurator for James [Ruthven], earl of Gowrie and Dame Dorothea Stewart, countess of Gowrie, his mother and tutrix testamenter to him, protested that this act in no manner of way should prejudice the said earl and his said mother of that action which they might have against John [Graham], earl of Montrose and others for spoiling of certain corns, goods, furnishing, plenishing and others intromitted with by them appertaining to the late William [Ruthven], earl of Gowrie and to the said Dame Dorothea out of the said late earl's mains and place of Ruthven and other places and mains.
