Protestation of John Beaton of Balfour

2The which day, in presence of the king's majesty and three estates of parliament, compeared personally John Beaton of Balfour, and protested solemnly that the benefit and favour of restitution granted in this present parliament to James [Beaton], archbishop of Glasgow shall in no way be hurtful or prejudicial to the said John Beaton of Balfour, served and retoured nearest and lawful male heir and of tailzie to the late John Beaton of Balquharg, his grandfather's brother, of all and whole the lands of Auchmuty, South and North Carries, Grange of Connan and their pertinents, lying within the regality of Arbroath and sheriffdom of Forfar, whereupon infeftment has followed, with possession in the said John's person concerning his rights and titles of the said lands, notwithstanding the act of ratification of the pacification, restitution and abolition passed generally in this present parliament; and thereupon asked acts and instruments.
