Act in favour of [Charles Erskine], earl of Mar

The estates of this kingdom, considering that Charles, earl of Mar, and his predecessors earls of Mar, have been for many generations heritable constables, captains, governors and keepers of the castle of Stirling and, by virtue of that office, had the command of all officers and soldiers kept in garrison in the said castle with diverse ample fees, privileges and emoluments belonging to the said office, until that of late encroachments were made upon the said earl in his possession of the foresaid office, and he unjustly turned out because he would not comply with the arbitrary courses for the time; therefore the said estates unanimously do hereby restore the said earl to the full and free possession of the said office of heritable constable, captain, governor and keeper of the said castle of Stirling, according as he and his predecessors did formerly enjoy the same, and particularly to the command of that company of foot whereof Lieutenant Colonel William Middleton is presently captain, with the benefit of the salary and other casualties and emoluments belonging to the said offices formerly enjoyed by the said earl.
