Procedure: preamble

In the parliament held at Holyroodhouse, 30 April 1573, these laws, statutes and constitutions were devised, concluded, statute and ordained by the right high, excellent and mighty prince, our sovereign lord James VI, by the grace of God, king of Scots, with advice and consent of a noble and mighty lord, and his right trusty cousin James [Douglas], earl of Morton, lord Dalkeith etc., regent to his majesty, his realm and subjects and three estates of this realm, assembled and convened to that effect, of the which laws and constitutions the tenor follows:

  1. Goodare discusses evidence that the pacification of Perth, concluded on 23 February 1573, was ratified by this parliament. It is missing from the register, but mentioned in TA, xii, p.341. English reports state that other acts, for which no text survives, were also passed in this parliament: 1. The restoration of George Gordon, earl of Huntly, Sir James Balfour of Pittendreich, David Seaton of Parbroath and Alexander Stewart, captain of Blackness; 2. The forfeiture of James Beaton, archbishop of Glasgow, William Chisholm, bishop of Dunblane, John Home, lord Home, Henry Echline, laird of Pettadro, Mr John Home, bastard son to Lord Home, Cuthbert Ramsay, Patrick Thompson, James Mossman, goldsmith, and William Henderson (called Bludwytte); 3. Ratification of the king's authority and the invalidity of all things done by any other authority; 4. The recovery of Edinburgh Castle. See CSP Scot., iv, p.555.
