The which day Master John Spence, advocate to our sovereign lord, in presence of [James Stewart, earl of Moray], my lord regent, and three estates of this present parliament, produced the summons of treason and lese-majesty raised at our said sovereign lord and his said dearest regent's instances, against one most reverend father in God John [Hamilton], archbishop of St Andrews, Claud Hamilton, son to James [Hamilton], duke of Chatelherault, Gilbert [Kennedy], earl of Cassilis, Hugh [Montgomery], earl of Eglinton, and certain others their colleagues, as at more length is contained in the said summons raised against them thereupon. And the same being read in presence of my said lord regent and three estates of parliament, with the executions and endorsement thereof, and the whole persons contained in the said summons being thrice called at the tolbooth window as use is, and none of them compearing, the said advocate repeated the depositions of the officers, executors of the said summons, with the depositions of the witnesses noted therein, which proved sufficiently the said executions and endorsements on 18 August 1568 in face of parliament, and thereafter [...]†
