Our sovereign lord and estates of this present parliament, having consideration that the parish kirk of Legerwood, being of old one of the parish kirks of the abbacy of Paisley, which abbacy in long time bygone was erected in a temporal lordship in favour of the late Claud [Hamilton], lord Paisley and his heirs, and which kirk of Legerwood, together with the kirk lands of the said parish of Legerwood, being a proper part of the patrimony of the said abbacy of old and of the said lordship since the erection was since resigned in the hands of our said sovereign lord his highness's commissioners of this kingdom by the late James [Hamilton], earl of Abercorn, procurator and commissioner for the said late Claud, lord Paisley, his father, in favour of Alexander Cranston of Murieston and his heirs specified in the said resignation, whereupon our said sovereign lord has given and granted to the said Alexander an infeftment under his highness's great seal of the aforesaid kirk lands of Legerwood and parish kirk thereof, with the teinds of the said kirk, both great and small, together with the advocation, donation and right of patronage of the said parish kirk and parish of Legerwood, parsonage and vicarage thereof, (excepting and reserving to the minister of the said kirk present and to come the manse and glebe of the said kirk according to the act of parliament). And to the effect that the said infeftment may be the more valuable and that the said kirk lands and teinds, great and small, together with the advocation and donation of the said parish kirk, both parsonage and vicarage thereof, (except before excepted) may remain perpetually with the said Alexander Cranston and his heirs in all time coming, unchallenged or impugned in any sort, our said sovereign lord and estates aforesaid have ratified, approved and confirmed and, by this act, ratify, approve and confirm the aforesaid infeftment in all and sundry heads, points, articles, clauses and circumstances thereof, and declare the same to be a good, valuable and sufficient title and security to the said Alexander and his foresaids for holding, enjoying and possessing of his said lands and teinds, great and small, with the advocation, donation and right of patronage of the said parish kirk and parish of Legerwood, parsonage and vicarage thereof, in all time coming, notwithstanding of any law, canon, civil or municipal, made in the contrary, to the which this act shall make express derogation. And declare this present ratification to be as sufficient as if the said infeftment were at length inserted herein word by word; concerning which our said sovereign lord and estates aforesaid have dispensed and, by this act, dispense for ever.
