†The which day the whole nobility and cou[ncil being convened], and the opinion of the lords who were upon [the conference being] heard, the whole meeting applauded thereto [and with uniform con]sent made choice of the lord [John Spottiswood], archbishop [of St Andrews, and earnestly] entreated him to undertake this burden [and to go to] [...] his majesty. Likewise the said archbishop [...] his majesty's service, and without respect [...] of his person and unseasonable time of [year, accepted the] charge upon him. Whereupon there was a missive letter written and subscribed by the whole nobility and council present and delivered to the archbishop to be carried to his majesty.
