Procedure: preamble

The parliament of the most excellent prince James, by the grace of God, king of Great Britain, France and Ireland, defender of the faith, held and opened in Edinburgh on 12 October in the year of the Lord 1612 by the lords commissioners named below, namely George [Gledstanes], archbishop of St Andrews, John [Spottiswood], archbishop of Glasgow, Peter [Blackburn], bishop of Aberdeen, John [Erskine], earl of Mar, Robert [Kerr], earl of Lothian, James [Sandilands], lord Torphichen, John [Maitland], lord Thirlestane, Lord James Foulis of Colinton, knight, Lord James Dundas of Arniston, knight, Lord John Learmonth of Balcomie, knight, Lord David Carnegie of [Colluthie and] Kinnaird, knight, James Nisbet and George Foulis [of Ravelston], burgesses of Edinburgh, John Lockhart [of Boghall], burgess of Ayr, and Alexander Rutherford [of Rubislaw], burgess of Aberdeen, together with Alexander Stobo for the constable, James Stewart for the marischal, Master Robert Learmonth for the sheriff of Edinburgh, and David Hamilton, dempster. Suits were called and the court affirmed.
