Our sovereign lord and estates of this present parliament ratify and approve the charter and infeftment granted by our sovereign lord under his highness's great seal to his majesty's beloved Sir James Douglas of Spott, knight, and his male heirs, of tailzie and provision contained in his former infeftment of the lands of Spott, and to the said Sir James's assignees whatsoever heritably, of all and whole the lands of Easter Spott, with parts, pendicles and pertinents thereof, namely: of the 14 husband lands of the town of Spott, with cottage thereof, east and west mill of Spott, the lands of Lochhouse, the lands of Doon, and mains thereof, and Brownisknow, the lands of Helden and Downtey, the lands of Easter and Wester Browniehouse, together with four husband lands called Panflos lands and two husband lands called Pookis lands lying in the town and territory of Spott, and also of the lands of Reidpethnuk with tenants, tenancies and service of free tenants, mills, woods, fishings, annexes, connexes, parts, pendicles, dependencies and pertinents of all and sundry the lands and mills above-written whatsoever lying within the sheriffdom of Edinburgh and constabulary of Haddington, all united in a whole and free barony called the barony of Spott, to be held of our said sovereign lord and his successors in free blench for the yearly payment of the sum of 12d usual money of this realm of Scotland at the feast of Whitsunday [May/June] upon the ground of the said lands of Spott and within the manor place thereof in name of blench ferm, if it be required, only, which charter and infeftment is of the date at Edinburgh, 9 August 1605, with the precept and instrument of sasine following thereupon in all and sundry points, passages, heads, articles, clauses, provisions, circumstances and conditions whatsoever therein contained after the forms and tenors thereof; and will and grant and, for his majesty and his successors, decree and ordain that this present ratification is and shall be as valid, effectual and sufficient to the said Sir James Douglas of Spott, knight, his male heirs, of tailzie, provision and assignees foresaid for possessing and enjoying of the lands, barony and others above-written, with the pertinents above-specified as their heritage at their pleasure in all time coming, as if the foresaid charter and infeftment, precept and instrument of sasine following thereupon were at length and word by word engrossed herein; excepting and reserving always out of this present ratification the advocation, donation and right of patronage of the parsonage and vicarage of Spott called the prebendary of Spott, and the said estates of this present parliament declare that this present ratification of the said Sir James Douglas of Spott's infeftment shall in no way authorise nor corroborate the same infeftment so far as the same infeftment extends, or may be extended, to the advocation and donation of the patronage of the said parsonage and vicarage of Spott and prebendary thereof.
