Procedure: preamble

The parliament of the most powerful and invincible prince James, by the grace of God, king of Great Britain, France and Ireland, defender of the faith, held in Edinburgh on 10 May in the year of the Lord 1608 by the commissioners named below, namely Alexander [Seton], earl of Dunfermline, chancellor, David [Lindsay], bishop of Ross, Walter [Stewart], lord of Blantyre, Lord Archibald Douglas of Whittingehame, knight, John Cockburn of Skirling, Lord John Arnott of Birswick, knight, for Edinburgh, together with Archibald Bald for the marischal, Alexander Stobo for the constable, and George Purdie for the sheriff of Edinburgh, and Andrew White for the dempster. Suits were called and the court affirmed.

Procedure: continuation of parliament; asking of instruments

The lords commissioners of this present parliament continue the same with all summonses, actions, causes and other matters belonging thereto until 30 July next, to be held then, and ordain all the estates of parliament and all others, our sovereign lord's lieges, to await thereon under the pains contained in the acts of parliament and continuation of the same. And upon the fencing of the which parliament and continuation of the same, and whole premises above-written, Sir Thomas Hamilton of Binning, knight, advocate to our sovereign lord and for his highness's interest, asked instruments.
