Procedure: preamble

The continued parliament of the most excellent and powerful prince James, by the grace of God, king of Great Britain, France and Ireland, defender of the faith, held in Edinburgh on 13 May in the year of the Lord 1606 by these commissioners named below, namely John [Graham], earl of Montrose, great commissioner, Alexander [Seton], earl of Dunfermline, chancellor, George [Sinclair], earl of Caithness, Alexander [Home], earl of Home, James [Gordon], earl of Sutherland, George [Home], earl of Dunbar, John [Spottiswood], archbishop of Glasgow, Peter [Rollock], bishop of Dunkeld, David [Lindsay], bishop of Ross, John [Maxwell], lord Maxwell, Mark [Kerr], lord Newbattle, John [Bothwell], commendator of Holyroodhouse, James [Elphinstone], lord of Balmerino, secretary, David [Murray], lord Scone and Archibald Douglas of Whittingehame, commissioner for the constabulary of Haddington, John Robertson and George Foulis [of Ravelston] for the burgh of Edinburgh, together with [George Keith], earl Marischal, Alexander Stobo for the constable, and William Mackieson for the sheriff of Edinburgh, and David Lindsay, dempster. Suits were called and the court affirmed.

Judicial proceedings: summons of treason

The which day Sir Thomas Hamilton of Monkland, knight, advocate to our sovereign lord, produced four several summonses of treason raised at our sovereign lord's instance, one against [Patrick Stewart], earl of Orkney, the second against Rory MacLeod of Harris, the third against Richard Graham of Redkirk, and the fourth against Rory MacNeil of Bara, who being all thrice called at the tolbooth window and none compearing except the said Patrick, earl of Orkney, who, being personally present, asked instruments that he was personally present and ready to [answer to] the said summons of treason.

Procedure: continuation of parliament; asking of instruments

The lords commissioners of parliament continue this present parliament in the same form etc. to 17 June next, to be held at Edinburgh the said day, at the which day ordain all the estates to await thereon, and continue the foresaid whole summonses of treason until the said day. Upon the fencing of the which parliament and continuation of the same, the said [Sir Thomas Hamilton of Monkland], lord advocate, asked instruments.
