Our sovereign lord and estates of parliament statute and ordain that the sloth and negligence of any of his highness's officers in the pursuing or defending of any of his actions or causes in any time bygone or to come shall in no way be prejudicial or hurtful to his highness but that he and his officers, successors in that office, may without any order of reduction and by way of exception or reply use and propose all and sundry exceptions, replies and defences competent of the law which were willingly or negligently omitted by their predecessors and thereby supply whatsoever thing that has been neglected or omitted by their said predecessors to the effect that his highness and his crown be in no way hurt nor prejudiced by negligent officers, and that the benefit of his laws may be competent to him at all times where it shall please him and his officers to crave and use the same.
