†The king's majesty, his nobility and council presently convened, moved with the extreme indignity done to his majesty in the seditious and treasonable uproar committed against his majesty sitting in his seat of justice in the tolbooth of Edinburgh upon 17 December last, with which his majesty, his nobility and council can burden none but the provost, bailies, council and whole body of the said burgh where the said pernicious fact was devised and executed by so great a number of the burgesses and indwellers of chiefest rank and authority within the same, that his majesty, his nobility and council are persuaded that the magistrates and body of the said town, by devising, enterprising, executing, allowance and sanction of the said fact, are universally guilty thereof; and therefore ordain letters to be directed to officers of arms, sheriffs in that part, charging them to pass, command and charge the provost, bailies, council and deacons of crafts representing the whole body of the said burgh of Edinburgh, by open proclamation at the market cross of the same, to pass and enter their persons in ward within the burgh of Perth upon 1 February next, therein to remain and keep ward thereafter upon their own expenses until they be tried foul or clean of the said treasonable fact before the justice and his deputes in the tolbooth of the same burgh according to the particular indictment to be given thereupon, and that justice be administered as appertains under the pain of rebellion and of putting them to the horn; and if they fail, the said day being past, to denounce them immediately thereafter his highness's rebels and put them to the horn and escheat etc.
