The parliament of the most excellent prince James VI, most illustrious king of Scots, held in Edinburgh on 20 May in the year of the Lord 1594, by the commissioners noted below, namely John [Maitland], lord Thirlestane, chancellor, Peter [Rollock], bishop of Dunkeld, Alexander [Colville], commendator of Culross, Lord Thomas Lyon of Auldbar, knight, treasurer, Lord Richard Cockburn of Clerkington, knight, secretary, William [Melville], commendator of Tongland, James [Lindsay], lord Lindsay, Lord John Cockburn of Ormiston, knight, justice clerk, Alexander Hay of Easter Kennet, clerk of the rolls of register, together with John Scott for the marischal, James Kinross for the constable, Robert Stewart for the sheriff of Edinburgh, and James Nisbet, dempster. Suits were called and the court affirmed.

The which day Masters David MacGill of Cranstoun-Riddel and John Skene [of Curriehill], advocates to our sovereign lord, produced a summons of treason raised at his highness's instance duly executed and endorsed against William [Douglas], earl of Angus, George [Gordon], earl of Huntly, Francis [Hay], earl of Erroll and Sir Patrick Gordon of Auchindoun, knight, for certain crimes of treason specified in the said summons of treason raised thereupon, which four persons were all thrice called at the tolbooth window of Edinburgh, and none of them compeared, whereupon the said advocates asked instruments.
And likewise the said advocates produced John Blindseil, messenger, executor of the first five executions of the said summons of treason raised at the instance of our said sovereign lord against the said earls of Angus, Huntly, Erroll and laird of Auchindoun, and made faith that he executed the same five executions as the same bears, and that he required George Grieve and Henry Bell to be witnesses to the foresaid whole five whole executions executed by him. Which two witnesses, being also present, made faith that they were required witnesses by the said John Blindseil, messenger, to the foresaid whole five first executions, the same being read to them in presence of the said lords commissioners, and that they heard and saw the said John Blindseil summon the said three earls and laird of Auchindoun to the effect contained in the said summons, after the form and tenor of the said executions. Upon the verification of the which five executions and every one of them, the said advocates asked instruments.
And also the said advocates produced Robert Fraser, messenger, executor of the last execution of the said summons of treason executed at the instance of our said sovereign lord against the said three earls and laird of Auchindoun, and made faith that he executed the same execution as the same bears, and that he required John Finlayson and George Cunningham to be witnesses to his said execution. Which witnesses, being present before the said lords commissioners of parliament, declared that they were present with the said Robert Fraser the time that he executed the said summons of treason according to the said last execution, and heard and saw the said Robert execute the same summons upon the said three earls and laird of Auchindoun in manner specified in the said last execution, and that they were required witnesses by the said Robert Fraser thereto. Upon the verification of the which last execution, the said advocates likewise asked instruments.

The lords declare this present parliament to run until the same be specially adjourned, and ordain all our sovereign lord's lieges that have any actions and causes depending in this present parliament to await thereon, so that the same may be called, treated and advised upon as appropriate.
