†Our sovereign lord, with advice of his estates in parliament, has ratified and approved and, by this present act, ratifies and approves the infeftment, gift and disposition therein contained made and granted by his highness after his perfect age of 25 years complete and revocation general to his right trusty cousin James, lord Lindsay of the Byres, and to the male heirs lawfully procreated or to be procreated of his body, which failing to his nearest and lawful male heirs whatsoever, of all and sundry the lands, baronies and others underwritten, namely: all and sundry the lands and barony of the Byres, with mains, castle, tower, fortalice, orchards, yards, dovecots, parts and pendicles thereof; the lands of Caldrow, with all their pertinents, lying within the constabulary of Haddington within the sheriffdom of Edinburgh; the lands and barony of Pitcruivie, with castle, tower and fortalice thereof; the lands of Markinch, with the corn mills and waulk mills of the same; the lands of Piotistoun; the lands of Monischeill; the two part lands of Edindownie; the two part lands of Cassindilly; the lands and barony of Pitlessie with the mills thereof; the lands of Hilton of Binyeane; the lands of Dunnyhaggittis, with all their pertinents, lying within the sheriffdom of Fife; the lands of Duddingston; the lands of Newton; the lands of Duntarvie, with the marshes thereof; the lands of Santserfislawes, with the law green; the lands of Philipstoun, with the pertinents; the lands of Gallouscruik; the lands of Duntarvie Craig; the lands of Dogland; the lands of Binns; the lands of Mannerston, with the tower of the same; the lands of Easter Scottistoun; the lands of Wester Scottistoun; the muir of Scottistoun as Murieleys Muir; the lands of Mureleyis; the lands of Flodderis; the lands of Midhope, with the tower and fortalice thereof and their pertinents, lying within the barony of Abercorn within the sheriffdom of Linlithgow; the lands of Dean, with the mills and muir thereof and their pertinents, lying within the sheriffdom of Edinburgh principal; the mains of Drem; the lands of Dremhill; the lands of Coittis; the lands of Middle Third and Coitakaris under Drem; the lands of Sanyngis; the lands of Muirtoun; the lands of Mungoswells; the lands of Garleton; the lands of Harvieston, with all their pertinents, lying within the said constabulary of Haddington within the sheriffdom of Edinburgh foresaid; the lands of Glendevon; the lands of Glensherup; the lands of Easter and Wester Whitehill, with the mills thereof and their pertinents, lying within the stewartry of Strathearn within the sheriffdom of Perth, with castles, towers, fortalices, mills, fishings, woods, forests, manor places, parts, pendicles, outsets, annexes, connexes, tenants, tenancies, service of free tenants, advocations, donations and rights of patronages of kirks and chaplainries of all the said lands and baronies respectively foresaid, preceding upon his said trusty cousin's own resignation, together with his highness's new gift and disposition specified in the said infeftment, union and annexation contained in the same, to be held of our said sovereign lord and his highness's successors in free heritage, free baronies and forests forever, for payment yearly to his highness and his successors for the said lands and barony of the Byres, with the castle, for fortalice, orchards, yards, dovecots, parts and pendicles thereof, and for the said lands of Caldraw, with their pertinents, of a pair of gilt spurs at the castle and messuage of the Byres in the day of St John the Baptist† in name of blench ferm if the same be asked only; and for all and sundry the other lands and baronies above-written, with castles, towers, fortalices, mills, woods, fishings, thickets, forests, marshes, greens, muirs, manor places, parts, pendicles, outsets, annexes, connexes, tenants, tenancies, service of free tenants, advocations, donations, rights of patronages of kirks and chaplainries of the same, and all their pertinents, three suits at three head courts of the sheriffdom of Fife; together with service of ward, relief and marriage when the same shall happen, and taxing the duty of the said lands in the time of the ward and non-entry thereof to £100 usual money of this realm to be paid yearly for the same at two terms in the year, Whitsunday [May/June] and Martinmas [11 November] in winter, by equal portions, and 1,000 merks to be paid for the marriage of the heir when the same shall happen, as in the foresaid infeftment passed under his highness's great seal of the date at Edinburgh, 25 June 1591, and of his highness's reign the 24th year at more length is contained. Moreover, our said sovereign lord, with advice foresaid, wills and grants and, for his highness and his successors, decrees and ordains that this present ratification shall be as good, valid and sufficient to said trusty cousin, his heirs and assignees above-written as if the said infeftment were at length inserted and engrossed hereunto.
