Procedure: lords of the articles

The which day, Sir John Maitland of Thirlestane, knight, secretary to our sovereign lord, proposed in presence of the king's majesty and lords of articles that some of the lords of articles chosen in the last continued parliament on 22 May 1584 are now absent, therefore he desired the lords present this day to advise if they might treat and conclude upon the matters concerning the king and commonwealth of this realm in this present parliament, although some of the said lords of articles chosen of before be now absent. Which proposition being at length reasoned by the said lords of articles present this day, they, all in one voice, find and declare that the lords present this day might treat upon all things in this present parliament, they being the most part of the number first chosen in the former parliament, likewise as if the whole lords chosen to the articles the first day had been present. Whereupon the said Master David MacGill [of Nisbet and Cranstoun-Riddel] asked instruments and desired further process.
