Oure soverane lord and estaittis of this present parliament, considdering that be act of parliament holdin in the monethe of Junii 1617 yeiris, his majestie, with advyse and consent of the estaittis of the said parliament, gave full power to certane comissionaris mentionat thairin, or to ony aucht of thame, to meit and convene togidder at sick tymes and place as they suld think expedient and to consult, advyse, appoynt and determine upoun maist convenient meanis how thair suld be ane just measure and wecht throchout all the pairtis of this kingdome universallie to serve all his hienes liegis, by the quhilk they suld buy, sell, ressave and geve out in all tyme thairefter; quhilk measour his majestie, with advyse foirsaid, fand suld be that measour of Linlithgow, quhilk wes than and is now commonlie useit, and quhilk hes bene useit maist custumablie throchout the greitest pairt of this kingdome fiftie or thriefcore yeiris bypast; and for setling of perfyite ordour quhairby all the measouris that ar now useit may be reducit to the conformitie off the said measure, and for making of proportioun answerable betuix lesser measoures and the greitest, as the said act at lenth beiris. Conforme to the quhilk act the comissioneris mentionat thairintill appoyntit be his hienes and estaittis foirsaidis, haveing met and convenit within the burgh of Edinburgh, and the said measure and firlote of Linlithgow with the jedge, quhilk is the warrand thairof, being exhibite and producit before thame, and having sene, considderit and met the same, they, after gude advyse and deliberatioun had be thame thairanent, fand the same measour and firlote to contene tuentie ane pyntis and ane mutchkin of just Sterline jug and measoure, and declarit, statute and ordanit the same firlote to be the just and onlie firlote quhilk suld be useit be all his majesties liegis in all tyme thairefter for metting of quheit, ry, beines, peis, meill, quhyt salt and sick uther stufe and victuell as has bene in use to be measored by straik mett within this kingdome, as the act, statute and ordinance made thairupoun be the saidis commissioneris of the date the nyntene day of Februare, jM vjC and auchtene yeiris mair fullie proportis. And in respect thair is ane gryit abuse and contempt baithe be these persounes quha has embraced and obeyit the saidis actis and statutes in inlargeing of the measure mair nor is prescryvit in the act, as be these quha will not obey and acknawledge the same, being solidlie concludit, sett doun and determined be the saidis commissioneris efter guid tryell and deliberatioune, quhilk is to the gryit hurt and skaithe of the gentlemen and laboreris of the ground within this kingdome; for remied of the quhilk contempt and dissobedience, his majestie, with advyse and consent of the estaittis of this present parliament, hes ratiefied and approvin and, be the tennour heiroff, ratiefies, apprevis and confermis the actis and statutes respective abovementionat in the haill heidis and conditiounes of the samene efter the formes and tennouris thairoff, and commandis and chargis all his majesties leigis and subjectis to acknawledge, embrace, obey and observe the samene actis and statutes respective in the haill heiddis and condiciounes of the samene in forme and maner speciallie and particularlie mentionat and sett doun thairintill, efter the formes and tennouris thairoff under all hiest payne, charge and offence quhilk thai may incure and inrin throcht thair dissobedience and as they wilbe ansurable thairanent.

Another anent the inbringing of water to Edinburgh

Oure soverane lord and estaittis of parliament, considdering that for the better effectuating of the commendable purpois intendit be the toun of Edinburgh of inbringing water frome a far off to thair said toun, it wilbe necessar for the convoying of the said water that seuchis and ditches be cassin in the landis and heretage pertening to thair nichtbour gentlemen, for the quhilk of all equitie thair aucht sum recompence to be made to the saidis heretore, thairfore, and for bettir ordour to be takin heirin, oure said soverane lord and estaittis foirsaidis hes remittit the said mater and consideratioun thairoff to the lordis of his majesties previe counsell and, be the tennour heiroff, gevis and grantis full power and commissione to the saidis lordis of previe counsell to determine and appoynt quhat particular recompence salbe gevin be the said tone of Edinburgh to suche heritouris of landis throcht the quhilkis the water man be convoyed as said is, quhais decreit and determinatione to be gevin heirupone sall have the full force, strenthe and authoritie off ane act of parliament ay quhill the halding of the nixt parliament and farder quhill the same decreit be dischargit.
