Oure soverane lord, understanding that the bruch of Jedburgh narrest adjacent to the border of Ingland wes be his hienes meist nobill predicessoris for wirdie considerationis erected in ane frie burgh regall, dottit with the commoun landis and all privileges belangand and appertening to ane frie bruch regall as being ane meist necessair refuige to his hienes subjectis upon the border beith in tyme of peax and weir, for resisting of the incursionis and invasionis of the ennemeis and for policie and guid ordour to be mentennit thairin, as in the infeftmentis meid thairupon of auld, bot specialie in the last infeftment grantit be Marie, quene of Scotland in the yeir of God jM vC fyfte sax yeiris, at mair lenth is contenit. According to the quhilk, the provest, balyeis, counsall and communitie of the said burgh hes ben in continuall and peciabill possessioun of the samin bruch as ane frie bruch regall, with all privilegis, communitie and commoun landis pertening thairto als frele as ony uther bruch regall within this realme hes ben at ony tyme heirtofoir. And his hienes, being of the lyk guid intentioun towardis the weilfair and mentenence of the said bruch as ony of his predicessoris wes of auld, his majestie, with advys of the estaitis and body of this present parliament, hes ratefeit, apprevit and confirmit and presentlie ratefeis, apprevis and confirmes the said infeftment of creatioun and erectioun of the said burgh with all privelegis, immuniteis, fredomes, commounteis and commoun landis belanging thairto with quhatsumevir infeftment maid thairoff ofbefoir, and willis the samin rest and remane with the inhabitantis of the said bruch present and to cum and thair posteriteis as valeid and suffecient titlis quhairby thay may posses their said bruch. And of new his hienes, with advys foirsaid, erectis, creattis and incorporatis the samin bruch with the foirsaidis liberteis and privilegis in ane frie bruch regall and to be als freilie bruikit and josit be the inhabitantis thairoff in tyme cumming as ony uther his principall burrowis hes ben bruikit heirtofoir, and ordanes publicatioun to be maid heirupoun in dew forme as effeiris.
