†Oure soverane lord, with advise of his nobilitie, secreit counsale, sessioun and chekker, haveing advisedlie considderit the cruell and barbarous attemptat committit within the burgh of Edinburgh upoun the sevintene day of December instant aganis his majesteis royall persone, his nobilitie and counsall, being as it wer besegeit within the tolbuith thairof be the violence of ane rascall multitude in armes at the instigatioun of certane seditious ministeris and baronis convenit and sworne to joyne hand in hand in thair tressounable and violent interprise, to his majesteis dishonnour and hasard of the lyveis of sic of his counsall as thay had enbaldened thair handis to murder without ony just caus, the example quhairof being swa rare and preparative, swa perrellous quhairof the lyke had nevir bene hard of within this natioun at na tyme heirtofoir, least that the impunitie thairof sould incourage utheris of bettir calling upoun quhatsumevir pretext be misregairding of his majesteis authoritie or pouer, not able to punishe condignelie ane swa haynous assasinatt, the neglecting quhairof micht bring furth na small birth of indigniteis nales dishonnourable to his majesteis estate, nor perrellous to his royall persone; for repressing thairof, and to the effect that his majestie not onlie may enjoy the wounted libertie of his crowne, his nobilitie and counsaill be the bettir assurit without regaird of ony persone in bauldnes to acquite thair charge to his majesteis proffitt and honnour, bot alsua that all men of quhatsumevir degree or conditioun may be terrifeit heireftir to attempt the like, his majestie, with advise foirsaid, hes declairit and declairis that the foirsaid interprise attemptit and committit be the personis and at the place and tyme in maner foirsaid wes maist tressounablie undirtakin aganis his majesteis persone, his nobilitie and counsall then present for the tyme; and statutis and ordanis all the divisaris, executouris, counsallouris and perttakaris or that sall heireftir protect, fortifie, mantene or assist ony of the saidis divisaris, executouris or ony of thair compliceis be help or supplie, consent or ratihabitioun hes and sall incurr the pane of tressoun in maist hie degree thairof, tobe punisheit and demanit thairfoir, thay and thair posteritie as tressounable tratouris callit and convenit thairfoir. Quhilk declaratioun his majestie, with advise foirsaid, ordanis tobe insert in the buikis of secreit counsaill and sessioun ad perpetuam rei memoriam, tobe ratifeit and approvin be oure said soverane lord and his three esteatis at the nixt parliament. And ordanis lettres of publicatioun tobe direct heirupoun for publicatioun of the premises at all placeis neadfull in forme as effeiris.
