†Anent the supplicatioun gewin in and presentit to oure soverane lord and thrie estaittis of this present parliament be the inhabitantis of the schirefdomes of Edinburgh, Lynlythgw, Fyff, Perth and utheris within this realme in the north pairtis thairof, makand mentioun that quhair the haill passage, at the leist the grytest pairt thairof, of the inhabitantis of the saidis sherefdomes resorting to oure said soverane lord and burgh of Edinburgh, quhair his majesties lawes ar ministrat and principall town and seit of justice is, wes be the brig of Crawmound, quhilk now and hes bene this lang tyme fallin down and na passage hed or may be hed thairby, quhairthrow, be the grite abundance of watter at the said brig commounlie rynnand sen the fall thairof, thair is divers personis perischit thairin and na commone passage thairat, nothir on fute nor horse, toye greit hurt, wraik and discommoditie of the haill lieges of the saidis sherefdomes and utheris resortand thairto, quhairupone thai menit thame to his majestie of befoir, quhen remeid wes promeist to be providit, albeit as yit oursene, as at mair lenth is contenit in the said supplicatioun; oure soverane lord, with avise and consent of the thrie estaittis of this present parliament, hes gevin and grantit power and commissioun to the Lord Seytoun, the Laird of Dundas, the Laird of Cragyhall, the Laird of Bernbowgall, the laud of Inverleith and ane commissioner for Edinburgh, or ony thrie of thame conjuctlie, to pas to the brig of Crawmound at ony tyme thai pleis appoint, and thair to visie and consider the said brig and to confer thairupone with the maist honest and ancient landit gentilmen duelland nixt adiacent thairto, and to considder the estate of the said brig and gif the same may be helpit, and be quhat best moyane the same may be done, and to report thair opinioun and procedingis in the premisis to the lordis of secreit counsall; and incais after the said report the said brig beis fundin remedable, oure said soverane lord, with avise foirsaid, gevis and grantis full power and commissioun to the lordis of secreit counsall to grant and appoint ane ressounable generall stent and taxatioun upone sic pairtis of the cuntrie as thai sall think maist expedient for help and support of the said decayit brig, and to mak speciall act and ordinance upone the said taxatioun contening the forme and ordour of payment and ingaddering of the samin, or ellis to grant power and licence to the saidis lordis of secreit counsall to sett, impose and uplift certane new custumes for a certane space of all scheip, ky, oxin, horsis, seckis of woll, hydis and sic utheris that pasis lang wayes the said brig to the effect abonewrittin, in cais the samyn be fundin expedient be the saidis lordis of secreit counsall efter conference had be thame thairanent with the foirsaidis commissioneris, and to mak speciall ordinance upone the saidis custumes contening the forme and quantitie of the saidis custumes and how lang the samin sall induir, siclike and in the samyn maner as the saidis thrie estaittis micht have done thame selffis.
