Forsamekill as the universiteis of this realme ar appointit for the educatioun of the youthheid quhilk suld be seid of gude learning and maneris within this realme, and that the samyn being richtlie foundit, alsweill in rentis as provisionis of maisteris and burserris, and that notwithstanding thay ar misusit be particular personis to thair awin avantage, without respect of the educatioun of the youth in wertew and gude lettrez, regarding na thing the commoune welth of this realme; for remeid of the quhilk, our soverane lord, with advise and consent of the thrie estaitis of parliament, gevis, grantis and commitis full power and commissioun to richt honorabillis reverend personis efter following, to pas to the collegis and universiteis efter specefiit, and thair vesy and considder the fundatiouns and erectionis of the universiteis and collegis within this realme; with full power to thame to reform sic thingis as soundis to superstioun, ydolatrie and papistrie, and to displace sic as ar unqualefiit and unmeit to discharge thair office in the saidis universiteis, and to plant sic qualefiit and worthie personis thairintill as thai sall find gude and sufficient for the educatioun of the youth and conform to the commoun weill of this realme: that is to say, for the universiteis of Sanctandrois, the archebischop thairof, the Archebischop of Glasgow, the Bischop of Aberdene, Robert, erll of Levenox, Robert erll of Buchane, Maister Andro Melvile and Maister Peter Young; for the Universitie of Aberdene, the said Archebischop of Sanctandrois, the Bischop of Aberdene, the said Robert, erll of Buchane, the commendatar of Deir, Maister Robert Maitland, dene of Aberdene, and Maister George Hay, persoun of Rauthwen; for the Universitie of Glasgw, the archebischop thairof, the said Robert, erll of Levenox, Robert, lord Boyd, Maister Andro Hay, Maister Thomas Smetoun and Maister Andro Polwart, quhilkis personis particularlie abonewrittin, appointit as said is, sall convene and begyn at Sanctandrois the first day of November nixt tocum, at Aberdene the xv day of the samyn moneth, and at Glasgow the xxiiij day of the samyn moneth of November nixt tocum; and thai being convenit at the particular places respective abone expremit, sall put this present act and ordinance to dew executioun in all pointis, efter the form and tennour thairof, as thay will ansuer to oure soverane lord thairupoun, and to report thair procedingis respective to the kingis grace and counsall the first day of Januar nixtocum, and to that effect that thai may tak forthir ordour thairintill gif neid beis.
