Forsamekill as oure soverane lord having acceptit the governament of his hienes realme in his awin persoun upoun the voluntary dimissioun of James, erll of Mortoun, lord of Dalkeyth, lait regent to his hienes, his realme and liegis, his majestie, be avise of his nobilitie and estaittis, hes now thocht gude to elect and cheis sex of the temporall and thre of the spirituall estate to be of his hienes ordinar secreit counsale, to remane togidder for furthsetting of his majesteis authoritie and administratioun of justice quhill the nixt parlia[...]: [...] ar to say,

And becaus oure soverane lord may oftymes be circumvenit and disshav[...] subscryving of divers signatouris of infeftmentis, donationis, giftis, conductis and remissionis, and siclyke utheris lettres twicheing his majestie in his casualitie or proper[...], it is thairfoir concludit, decernit and ordanit be his hienes, with avise of the saidis nobilitie and estaittis, that na sic giftis, signatouris and remissionis, respettis, conductis or utheris lettres sall pas in tyme cuming without the advise and consent of the saidis lordis of secreit counsale; and that all sic lettres and signatouris be first subscrivit be samony of the said ordinar counsale as salbe present for the tyme, to the nowmer of sex personis at the fewest sittand togidder in counsale, the chancellare alwayis being ane. And gif ony sic lettres salhappin to pas without thair consentis and subscriptionis in maner foirsaid, the samyn tobe of nane avale, force nor effect thaireftir, and ordanis and commandis the kepar of the greit seill, prevy seill and signet that nane of thame ansuer nor pas the saidis seillis or signet to ony lettres bot sic as beis subscrivit in maner foirsaid, as thay will ansuer upoun the contrary. And this ordour to induir quhill the said parliament appointit, the said tent day of Julii nixtocum.

The quhilk day, in presens of the kingis majestie, nobilitie and estaittis, the nobill men underwrittin: thay ar to say, Coline, erll of Ergyle, lord Campbell and Lorne, Johnne, erll of Atholl, lord of Balvany, George, erll of Caithnes, Johnne, erll of Montrois, Williame, lord Ruthvene, Johnne, lord Hereis, Alexander Erskin of Gogar, in absens of the maister of Marschell, Robert, commendatare of Deir, his broder, Robert, bischop of Caithnes, Mark, commendatare of Newbottill, Maister George Buchannane, kepar of the prevy seill, and Sir Williame Murray of Tulibardin, knycht, comptrollar, being admittit to be of the kingis majesteis ordinar prevy counsale, quhill the nixt parliament appointit to be haldin at Edinburgh upoun the tent day of Julii nixtocum, maid fayth and gaif thair aythis be halding up thair handis that thay sould gif thair aufauld, leill and trew counsale in all thingis sould happin to be proponit in counsale tending to the honour and suirtie of his majesteis maist nobill persoun, the commoun effaris of his realme and liegis thairof, and keip the samyn secreit and unrevelit be ony maner of way; and that thay sould convene at Edinburgh upoun the viij day of Apryle nixtocum and thair remane togidder and be redy to gif thair counsale quhill the said parliament, and to be responsall and accusabill to the king and his estaittis of thair counsale. [...] hes promittit to abyde and remane at thair counsale quhill the said [...]; and als the saidis lordis promeist to abyde togidder in the menetyme and not to depart without licence of his majestie and remanent of his counsale.
