Forsamekle as the jowellis, houshald stuff, munitionis and movable guidis quhatsumevir, sumtyme pertenyng to the quene, oure soverane lordis moder, and now pertening to his majestie sen his hienes coronatioune, ar disperit and fallin in the handes of divers the subjectis of this realme and utheris quhilkis hes the samyn, and dalie sellis and disponis or hes sauld and disponit thairupoune to thair privat uses, greitlie to the dampnage and prejudice of his hienes, that thairfore it may be fund expedient and convenient be the thre estaittis and haill body of this present parliament that my lord regentis grace caus persew the havaris, resettaris, sellaris and intromettouris with the saidis jowellis, houshald stuff, munitionis and movable guidis, now pertening to oure soverane lord as said is, and recovering and collecting of the same agane to his hienes use and behalf, declarand and decernand that my lord regentis grace acquittance thairupoun salbe sufficient discharge and warrand for deliverance of the saidis jowellis, houshald stuff, munitionis and movables presentlie and in all tyme cuming.

Becaus this act and ordinance is generallie extendit to all deidis sen oure soverane lordis coronatioune, as also the same is extendit to all personis quha at ony tyme befoir this tyme have assistit to the contrarie auctorite, howbeit, be act of parliament haldin at Striveling in September, the yeir of God jM vC lxxj yeris, Archibald, erle of Ergile, Hew, erle of Eglintoun, Gilbert, erll of Cassillis, Robert, lord Boyd and ane certane space thaireftir Johnne, lord Maxwell and Johnne, lord Hereis acknawlegit oure soverane lordis auctoritie and wer ressavit in favour; thairfoir, that it be providit in the act now to be maid that the same be na maner of way derogative or prejudiciall to the said appunctment, takin with the saidis noblemen and every ane of thame for thame selffis, thair friendis, kynnismen, servandis, assisteris and partakers of before, bot that the same remane in the awin strenth and force, ratifiand and apprevand the samyn be thir presentis. And forder, that notwithstanding the said act now to be maid, or ony uther law or constitution in the contrair, it may be providit and statute that the saidis noblemen, thair freindis, kynsmen, servandis, assisteris and partakers sall nevir be callit, arreistit, troublit or persewit, criminallie or civilie, for ony fact or deid committit be thame, or ony of thame, assistance gevin be thame to ony oure soverane lordis innymeis, othir aganis oure soverane lordis auctoritie or ony uther particulair persoune, throw thair assistence in the commoune cause of mantenance of the contrair auctoritie or ony thing depending thair upoune at ony tyme before thair acknawleging of oure soverane lordis auctoritie, bot that thay, thair airis and successouris salbe fre, exonerit and acquite of all actioun and clame, criminale or civile, quhilk in ony maner of way may be competent to oure said soverane lord or his subjectis aganis the saidis personis; and to discharge the lordis of sessioun, the justice and all utheris jugeis in communi forma, and that conforme to thair remissionis and appoyntment maid thairupon.

Forsamekill as the tyme of the lait truble, movit be the declarit tratouris and conspiratouris aganis oure soverane lordis authoritie within and aboute the burgh of Edinburgh, ane gret nomer of the inhabitantis thairof, nocht abill to resist the saidis rebellis, war compellit to leif thair housis and withdraw thame selffis to Leithe, quhair thai trewlie, be all thair power, servit oure soverane lorde, his regenttis and lieutenentis in defence of his graces just authoritie nocht withoute the hasart of thair lyffis and spending of ane gret portion of thair substance; for the quhilk caus, nocht onelie wes thair deidlie hatrent borne aganis thair personis, bot for farther dispyte aganis ane nomar of the saidis inhabitantis of Edinburg,h for the ernist effectioun quhilk thai bure in oure soverane lordis service, and to affray other gude subjectis and sympillmen throu the noveltie of thair desperat doing, to compell thame to furneis the saidis rebellis money for feir of grettar inconvenient to the furthebering of thair mischevous interprysis and tresssonable attemptatis, thay brint, demolysit and keist doun to the ground divers logeingis, landis and tenementis within the said burgh and suburbis thairof, pertening to the inhabitantis of the samyn gude subjectis to oure soverane lorde, efter thai had maid pray, reft and spulyeit all thair insycht mowables and plenissing, being within the samyn. For remeid of the quhilkis havie skaithis and dampnagis, and to the effect that na feir of the los of gudis or distructioun of housis and tenementis sall move the saidis gude subjectis to yeild to tyrannie or be privat or publict consent to supplie the tressonable attemptatis of the saidis declarit tratouris in tyme cuming, and albeit also my lorde regentis grace quha last decessit, with awyse of his secreit counsall, be thair act and ordinance disponit the haill eschaetis of the saidis rebellis, inhabitantis, to thame quha sustenit the said dampnage, and part thai now ar content to ressave onelie recompence for thair skaith, that it may be statute and ordanit in this present parliament that all housis, landis and tenementis rewinit, cassin doun, distroyit or deteriorat within the fredome and libertie of the said burghe, and otheris in the suburbis thairof, pertening to quhatsumever inhabitant of the samyn, quha baid at the trew obedience and service of oure said soverane lorde during the tyme of the said trublis, salbe reparit and recompancit be the landis, tenementis, annuelrenttis and otheris heretagis lyande within the fredome of the said burghe and pertening to the personis, inhabitantis of the said burghe quhilkis fortefeit, furnesit, suppleit, assistit the saidis rebellis and conspiratouris and tuke part with thame in thair said tressonable attemptatis and distructionis; and to the intent and purpois foresaid, that it be ordanit be act of parliament that all and syndrie landis, tenementis, annualrentis and otheris heretagis lyande within the said burgh of Edinburgh, pertening to the saidis rebellis, thair assistaris, furnesaris and parttakaris, being inhabitantis of the said burgh as said is, salbe taxt and extentit be the provest and baillies off the said burgh, and sua monye of the counsall thairof, or othairis personis as salbe thoucht expedient be thame, to be changit and alterit at thair plesour, for recompance of the saidis dampnage and skaithis sustenit be the demolitioun and deterioratione foresaid, gewand, grantand and committande to the saidis provest and baillies, and otheris to be depute be thame as saidis, full power and jurisdictioun in the premisis, and to wey the degreis and qualiteis of the saidis personis, assistaris, furnesaris and parttakaris according to thare habiliteis and degreis of thair falt; and to appoint to the personis, sustenaris of the said dampnagis, the manere of the satisfactionis thairof, and gewand thame power to put the samyn to dew executioun in all pointtis be appryssing of the landis of the saidis uthir personis or otherwyse translatioun of thair rychtis thairof as salbe thocht be thame maist expedient in maist ample forme. Attoure part in considderatioun that the saidis inhabitantis of the said burgh quha hes, be danger of thair lyffis and spending of the grettest part of thair substance willinglie continewit in oure soverane lordis service, be na wyse frustrait of the recompance and reparatioun of thair saidis dampnagis be onye ingyne or cautele, and namelie gif part be mediat personis the saidis committaris of the distructioun foresaid hes obtenit or heirefter sall obtene the giftis of thair eschaetis of thair saidis landis or remissionis unto thame for all crymes committit quhairthrou, this said ordinance may be of nane effect. Thairfore, it will pleis my lord regentis grace, be awyse of the thre estaitis of parliament, to decerne and ordane that the said reparatioun and recompensatioun, in maner as is befoir expremit, sall haif dew executioun, nochtwithstanding onye sentence of forefaltour past aganis onye of the saidis personis, onye gift of eschaete, infeftment of thair landis following thairupon, remission or onye othair compositioune or finance maid or to be maid anent thair saidis landis, quhilk in this caise, and in regaird of the said reparation, salbe declarit fra the begynning to haif bene and in tyme cuming to be of nane awaill, force nor effect. And to the effect that, without all excuis and subterfuge, this said ordinance may be put to farther executioun, that it will pleis my lorde regenttis grace and estaitis foresaidis to privielage the saidis personis dampnifiit anent the said reparatioun of the saidis landis in maner foresaid, before all other creditouris, quha, be ressoun of onye actioun, reall or personall, gift of eschaet or infeftment succeding thairupon, may haif onye actioun aganis the saidis personis, distroyaris or assistaris to the said distructioun, in maner foresaid.
