Item, in the parliament haldin at Edinburgh the twelf day of November the yeir of God 1526 yeiris, the quhilk day, anent the artickle of slauchteris, murtheris, birningis, it is statute and ordanit that the actis maid thairupon of befoir and the auld lawis be keipit, with this additioun: that quha cummis and birnis folkis in thair housis and all birnyngis of housis and cornis and wilfull fyre raising be tresoun and cryme of lesemajestie, because sic deidis ar exhorbitant and mair aganis the commoun weill than mony uther crymes; and that particulare justice courtis or generall justice airis be set thairto as sall pleis the kingis grace, his counsell and the justice for the tyme, with thair consent, provyding that it salbe lesum to ony man to persew and follow commoun thevis and rebellis, to tak thame, and gif thay enter in housis, that it salbe lefull to invaid, brek or distroy the saidis housis be fyre or utherwyse, to the intent and effect of taking or slaying of the saidis thevis or rebellis, for the quhilk thair sall follow upon the doaris na paine, accusatioun, cryme, nor offence bot to be fre thairof at all tymes.
