Regarding the article touching the desire of the town of Middelburg concerning the money disbursed by them and also concerning the staple, the lords of the articles think it expedient that, because the king's letters under his great seal are passed to the Lord of Foire and those parts, bearing in effect that the merchants of this realm have freedom to use their merchandise in the parts of Flanders where they please best, whereby the town of Middelburg has not obtained their desire, therefore, ordain the money that was delivered for the said town of Middelburg to the king's grace and his servants to be paid and delivered again to them by the king's grace.

The lords think it expedient that a respite be granted under the privy seal† to Alexander John Canochson and to his household, men and servants, to the number of 30 persons, to come to the king's grace and appoint with his highness, and to return again to the Isles safely, and the said respite to endure to 24 May next to come.

The lords of articles decree and ordain that Sir John Campbell of Lundie, knight, shall deliver immediately the contract, concord, confederation and appointment lately made by the [Holy Roman] Emperor [Charles V] and Mistress Margaret, duchess of Flanders, and him as ambassador to our sovereign lord, touching the privileges, peace and other things certified in the same between this realm and Flanders, that the same may be sent with expedition under our sovereign lord's seal interchangeably to [Charles V], duke of Flanders, so that the same be inviolably observed in times coming, and likewise shall deliver all other letters that he has or gets concerning the same.
